Dec 11, Turkey Leg Hut

Dec 11, 2019

We woke up to a bright and sunny day.  Holly wanted to do some stuff on the internet so I dropped her and Olivia off at Starbucks while I went to Home Depot to look for some window sealant and get gas.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the brand of sealant I wanted but on the other hand I hit a new low price of $1.98 a gallon of gas at Costco.  Picked up Holly and Olivia and we went downtown to the Turkey Leg Hut for lunch.  We found out about it on the Youtube channel “Texas Bucket List” and the restaurant featured stuffed Turkey legs what were fall off the bone tender.  We love turkey legs so we couldn’t turn down this opportunity.

Our splurge for the day was lunch at the Turkey Leg Hut in Houston

We got there right around lunchtime and had only a short wait to get in.  The basic turkey leg price of $10 wasn’t bad but we were not there for a normal turkey leg so we ordered the crawfish macaroni and cheese stuffed turkey leg for $24.  We also ordered cross cut fries with BBQ turkey on top for another $13.  The plates arrived and they were quite large.  The food was delicious and the meat was indeed fall off the bone tender.  Yum.  Holly saw a sign on the wall that said “When life gives you lemonade, add Hennessy to it” and of course Holly just had to try a Hennessy lemonade which we later found out was a rather pricey $11 but Holly did enjoy the drink.

The final price was around $60 but there was so much food that we were stuffed had to bring some of it back to Rover.  It was a beautiful day so we went to Hermann Park a large park near downtown Houston.  It was past 3 pm by the time we got there but it was still a nice day.  We strolled around the Japanese Gardens (free), along the lake and then took a small train around the park ($3.75 per person).  There were paddle swan boats as well but they were closed.  As it got dark we returned to Rover.  It was rush hour so we made dinner right in the parking lot and made our way to the Cracker Barrel later to go to sleep.

Good thing we can fit in a regular parking space!

The day was great and allowed for perfect reflections from the pond.

There was a large reflecting pool at the park
The train ride at the park was surprisingly long.
